The Caregiver’s Advocate, A Complete Guide to Support and Resources Book
All my life I have been a caregiver by nature. Looking out for the welfare of others came easily—and often to my demise.
When my parent’s health began to deteriorate, it was natural for me to “step in” and assume a caregiving role. This responsibility quickly morphed from a short-term to a long-term commitment. I felt tremendous stress and was crushed by the responsibility of caring for two parents simultaneously.
I quickly found myself on a downward spiral, and needed to address the toll caregiving was taking on my own life and health.
A choice had to be made: I could be crushed by the responsibility of caregiving (I’m an only child). Or I could find a way to shift my negative outlook to a more positive one. I shifted.
The Caregiver’s Advocate is an impactful book that shares many ways to navigate the world of caregiving with knowledge and grace. It is designed to make your journey more manageable and includes a list of helpful resources.
In my chapter, Finding the Gift, When Caregiving Has No End in Sight (Chapter 14), I show the emotional struggles I faced as a caregiver, and how I successfully learned to find “the gift” within the circumstance so I could improve my long-term outlook. At the end of my chapter, I share simple mindfulness tools to create a positive mindset habit. This is a game-changer!
